Imprivata boosts secure access and usability

Imprivata, the company that simplifies and secures user access, has announced the general availability of Imprivata OneSign 4.5. With breakthrough features such as OneSign Secure Walk-Away, and capabilities such as strong authentication for Citrix and RDP sessions and enhanced support for virtualised desktops, the new release solves the critical workflow and security challenges organisations face by strengthening user authentication and streamlining application access.

OneSign 4.5 features automatic desktop locking via secure Walk-Away, which uses intelligent computer vision technology with active presence detection to secure unattended desktops without changing end-user behaviour. This feature removes the security burden from a user, and reduces the time and frustration associated with logging on/off applications.

Also, the addition of one-touch roaming and location awareness enables desktops to follow users throughout the organisation, making the electronic data they need available to them wherever they are with the use of a proximity card.

Alongside the traditional hardware appliance, customers now have the option of deploying OneSign 4.5 as a virtual appliance. Imprivata also announced a tie-up with virtualisation firm VMware to integrate OneSign with VMware's View desktop management service.

The integration will enable secure end-point data access and user roaming desktops with location awareness in virtual desktop environments. Vittorio Viarengo, vice president of desktop products at VMware, said: “Healthcare is a prime example of a market that sees virtual desktops as a powerful means to improve workflow within an environment that's heavily-reliant on roaming sessions and shared workstations".
