Closes a Critical Security Gap in the Protection of Confidential Patient Information

At the recent HIMSS 2010 Annual Conference & Exhibition held during March in Atlanta, Imprivata notified the healthcare community of the availability of Imprivata OneSign Secure Walk-Away. 

Once a user has securely authenticated to the desktop using OneSign Authentication Management, OneSign Secure Walk-Away uses a combination of computer vision, active presence detection, and user tracking technologies to identify an authenticated user.  The desktop is automatically locked upon their departure, and the user is instantly re-authenticated upon their return.  Using the OneSign technology in this manner, Imprivata can now help hospitals to improve patient safety through helping to elimiate errors that may result from unattended workstations.

The Secure Walk-Away component is an integrated element within Imprivata's OneSign Authentication Management offering, which replaces weak Windows desktop and VPN passwords with a broad range of strong authentication options.  These include biometrics, proximity cards, smartcards, OTP tokens, and an employee's physical location.

This enables centralized and flexible authentication management at the desktop, network, application, and transaction-level.  Imprivata OneSign works with existing IT infrastructure, requiring no change to user directories, applications, or physical access control systems, and requires no additional staffing or specialized management skills.
